While sliding glass doors are a great thing to have in any home, they can have some drawbacks. To start with, they aren’t as insulated as walls and given how large they are they can allow a lot of cool air in during the winter. They are also like a large window which neighbors or people walking by can look right in. Fortunately, there is a great way to fix both of these issues while adding additional beauty to your home as well, and that is a sliding door window treatment.
These treatments are effectively like large curtains which are made specifically for your sliding glass door. Of course they are quite large to ensure the entire window is covered, but they also open in a way which allows you to continue to use the door like normal. You can open and close the window treatment to allow the sun in, or to give you added privacy when you need it.
When you add a high quality window treatment to your sliding door you’ll also be adding an extra layer of insulation to the opening. In the winter this can significantly cut down on the cool air coming off of the window. It is kind of like putting a blanket over the glass door to help keep the warm air in and the cool air out. You can realize significant savings from these treatments as well as enjoy their great looks.
One of the hardest parts about adding a sliding door window treatment is picking out which one is right for you. There are dozens of different styles, colors and even materials to choose from so you might have trouble picking just one. Most people will want to pick a style that matches the room the sliding door is in. This is a great way to keep the overall look and feel of the room consistent while improving the look of the sliding door.
Once you’ve picked out the perfect sliding door window treatments you can start working on installing them. This is a much easier job than most people would think. Most of them are installed using a beam across the top and two support brackets on either side just like curtains. You can install them in just minutes by following the included instructions. The main thing to pay attention to is keeping the brackets level so the treatment will look nice and even across the door. Most sliding doors have a frame around them though so you can use that as a level to ensure it is put up perfectly.
No matter what types of window treatments you go with, you’ll surely love the results once you’ve got them put up. If you did have trouble picking just one style keep in mind that once you have the hardware installed you can often just take down the window treatment and put another one in its place quickly and easily. This means you can buy more than one style and use them for different seasons or just while one of them is getting cleaned!
